Painting Tips | Brushed Pearl
There are several techniques you can explore. But why would you want to go the extra step, putting forth a bit more effort? The answer is very simple, for the extra amount of effort you change completely change the feel of the room. You can change the room from cold, to warm and inviting, from dingy and dirty to fresh and clean etc. Color choice is very important. For instance, you may want to choose a shade of orange when painting an child's room, Orange stimulates creativity. Yet a gray toned blue will add an understated luxury feel to your living space. So depending on what look you are going for throughout your house you will want to choose the colors wisely. Another thing to remember when choosing paint is the way to colors will flow throughout the house.
So we'll start with a paint technique called BRUSHED PEARL
Brushed pearl is really cool creating a dimensional iridescent finish to your walls. First off what materials and tools are needed for this job? Satin Interior base coat in desired color. Brushed pearl paint in
desired color. (Valspar)
Roller with 3/8” nap and
paint tray.
Plastic float trowel
Drop cloth to protect your floors
Ok, materials and tools are covered,
lets get started.
Please remember this is a technique,
so you may want to use a practice board before trying this on your
wall. Mask off all areas you wish
to not be painted, such as baseboards, electrical outlets, light
switches etc. As well as your drop cloth on the floor to avoid
stains.
Apply the base coat with a roller over the entire
surface, IMPORTANT- allow to dry completely, a good rule of thumb is
24 hours.Wish a brush, cut in 3”
from the ceiling, floor, trim edges and corners. Brush out the edges
in sections to avoid a banded appearance. Using the color washing
brush to apply the Brushed Pearl, cut in along ceiling floor and
molding. Proceed with the main wall in an “X” pattern
over a 4x8 area. Apply an even opaque layer avoiding thick
applications.
Press the plastic float
trowel into the wet surface, moving the material in a circular
motion. The trowel should grab slightly to create the dimensional
swirl effect. If the surface is too wet and the trowel slips over
the material, it is necessary to wait longer before using the
trowel. Clean the trowel every so often during this process.
Continue across the wall
repeating steps 2 and 3. Allow surface to dry 3 to 4 hours. If you
desire a 2nd
coat just repeat steps 2 and 3.
If you desire added protection
you can apply a coat of FAUX Clear protective finish in the desired
sheen. But please note that this gloss will heighten the metallic
sheen of Brushed Pearl.

This technique is very easy to paint over and will require no sanding. If desired to cover over this technique just apply a top coat layer, and your done.
I hope you enjoy the look of
your beautiful new wall and adding life to the room!
