Drywall Mud | The role Mud plays in your project

Drywall Mud what is it? Good question. Drywall mud is essential in any drywall task from the smallest job to the largest.

Drywall mud is also known as Joint compound. Drywall mud is white and is very similar to plaster. Drywall mud is used to set the joints between drywall sheets and cover exposed nails. This mud is easy to use and apply to the wall. Unless left unattended for a couple of hours your drywall mud will not dry if this does happen you can apply water to the mixture and the mud will regain its soft texture.

Using drywall mud as a joint sealer (coupled with tape sealer) is common use all over the world.

There are a variety of Mud's to choose from. You will need to determine the job before choosing the mud.

Already mixed mud is the most common Mud used for Drywall jobs.

This paticular mud just needs water. You will need a large heavy duty mixer. This mixing tool will give you the consistancy needed to get the job done.

Already mixed mud compared to dry mud may not be the cheapest on the shelf, but always remember time is money.

Already mixed mud is commonly used for covering drywall blemishes such as drywall screws, drywall nails, hanging and drywall tape.

5 minute mud is a mixture you would want to use when in a hurry, particularly when doing a small and quick repair job. You will want to mix 5 minute drywall mud in a small amount as this particular mud does dry very quickly. Between each mixing you will want to clean off your tools very well as the mud will dry quickly on your tools and cause damage. You will not want to use 5 minute mud as a top coat as it tends to have a rough texture and you will want your top coat to display a smooth look.

These are just a few kinds of mud to choose from out of many. The mud used for your job can also be determined by either the contractor handling your job, the drywall technician or if you are doing the job yourself your local hardware store can also help you determine your needs.
